NEW WARNING
The Food and Drug Administration is requiring manufacturers of products containing propoxyphene, such as Darvon and Darvocet, to strengthen their boxed warnings about the risk of accidental and intentional overdose with the use of these products. Manufacturers must also develop a Medication Guide that must be distributed to patients with each prescription or refill. Propoxyphene is an opioid used to relieve mild to moderate pain. Health care providers must carefully screen patients before prescribing these drugs.
