Available forms
Available as powder, lotion, extract, fruit syrup, and Decoctum Cydoniae, B.P. (decoction from seeds).

Uses
Used as a demulcent in digestive disorders and diarrhea. Raw fruits are used for diarrhea. Decoction of seeds is used internally for dysentery, diarrhea, gonorrhea, thrush, and mucous membrane irritation. Decoction is also used as an adjunct to boric acid eye lotions and as a compress or poultice for skin wounds and injuries or inflammation of the joints and nipples.

Interactions
None reported.

Cautions
Patients who are pregnant or breast-feeding shouldn’t use this herb. Geriatric patients and those with a history of immune disorders or peptic ulcers should use the herb cautiously.
