Using difluprednate (Durezol)

Dear Patient,
Your health care provider has prescribed difluprednate for treatment after your eye surgery. This drug interferes with the inflammatory response to decrease inflammation. The brand name of this drug is Durezol.

How you'll administer Durezol
Beginning 24 hours after surgery, instill one drop into the affected eye four times per day for 2 weeks. Then decrease the dosage to two times per day for 1 week. Your prescriber will then reduce the dose based on your response to the medication.

What to do if you miss a dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for the next dose, just skip the missed dose. Don't try to "make up" doses.

What to do about side effects
Notify your health care provider if you experience side effects to this medication.
Common: eye swelling, redness, pain, and inflammation; light intolerance; eyelid inflammation.
Less common: reduced visual acuity.

What you must know about other medications
Tell any health care provider who takes care of you that you're taking this drug.
